The Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology (IIST), established in 2007, is a premier deemed-to-be university under the Department of Space, Government of India. Admission to its highly sought-after B.Tech programs in Aerospace Engineering and Avionics is based on a candidate's JEE Advanced rank, with a minimum of 75% aggregate marks in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics (PCM) in 12th standard (65% for SC/ST/PwD categories). IIST is uniquely positioned to offer specialized undergraduate and postgraduate programs in space science and technology. It holds a strong academic reputation, reflected in its NIRF 2023 Engineering ranking of 48. A distinctive feature of IIST is its direct recruitment scheme: meritorious graduates (with a minimum CGPA of 7.5/10) are absorbed into various ISRO/DOS centres as Scientists/Engineers 'SC' without requiring further selection tests, making it an ideal pathway for aspiring space scientists and engineers to join ISRO directly. Specializations include Aerospace Engineering, Avionics, and various space science disciplines through its dual degree and postgraduate programs.
