The Joint Admission Test for Masters (JAM) is an all-India examination conducted jointly by the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) on a rotational basis, under the guidance of the JAM Board. It serves as a gateway for admission to M.Sc., M.Sc. (Tech.), MS (Research), M.Sc.-M.Tech. Dual Degree, Joint M.Sc.-Ph.D., and other Post-Bachelor's Degree programmes at IITs, and Integrated Ph.D. programmes at IISc. Additionally, several National Institutes of Technology (NITs), IIEST Shibpur, SLIET, and other Centrally Funded Technical Institutes (CFTIs) also accept JAM scores for admission to their postgraduate programs. Eligibility typically requires a Bachelor's degree in the relevant discipline, with no age limit. The exam is a Computer Based Test (CBT) of 3 hours duration, comprising three sections: Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ), Multiple Select Questions (MSQ), and Numerical Answer Type (NAT), totaling 100 marks. Key subjects tested include Biotechnology, Chemistry, Economics, Geology, Mathematics, Mathematical Statistics, and Physics. The official website changes annually with the host IIT; a search for "IIT JAM" will lead to the current year's portal.
