The National Institute of Design Design Aptitude Test (NID DAT) is a highly competitive entrance examination for admission to Bachelor of Design (B.Des) and Master of Design (M.Des) programs offered by the prestigious National Institute of Design (NID) across its campuses in India. The exam is conducted by NID itself. For B.Des, candidates must have passed or be appearing for their 10+2 examination, with an age limit typically set at 20 years for general category candidates as of July 1st of the admission year. The selection process comprises two stages: DAT Prelims, a pen-and-paper test evaluating Creative Ability (CA) and General Ability Test (GAT), followed by DAT Mains, which includes a Studio Test and a personal Interview for shortlisted candidates. Key subjects tested include design aptitude, drawing skills, observation, creativity, problem-solving, and general knowledge. NID offers around 425 B.Des seats across its various campuses.
